SAM FEIN ANNOUNCES CAMPAIGN FOR ALBANY CITY AUDITOR WITH ENDORSEMENT FROM CITIZEN ACTION OF NEW YORK
Albany, NY – Sam Fein officially announced today that he is running for Albany City Auditor, bringing his years of service as an Albany County Legislator and extensive experience working in city and state government. Demonstrating strong early support for his campaign, Fein has been endorsed by Citizen Action of New York, a major grassroots organization dedicated to fighting for equity, justice, and community empowerment. He will compete in the Democratic Primary in June 2025.
As City Auditor, Fein will work to tackle Albany’s deepest challenges, including stagnant economic growth, neighborhoods burdened by vacant buildings and public safety concerns, and rising housing costs. “Every family deserves safe, vibrant communities, housing they can afford, and access to opportunity,” he said. “People want leaders who acknowledge our city’s struggles and deliver solutions. As City Auditor, I will examine the systems behind these challenges, ensuring our policies reflect the realities of working people and that every neighborhood receives the high-quality services it deserves.”
Citizen Action of New York’s endorsement underscores Fein’s commitment to progressive values and effective governance. “When we think about co-governance and electing people to office who represent our membership, Sam Fein is the perfect example of this partnership,” said Alycia Bacon, Citizen Action Board Member. “Sam has continuously shown up to assist all residents of Albany, not just our members. We know he will be the perfect person to hold this position as a steward of Albany’s financial commitments to everyone, not just the privileged few.”
Fein envisions a city government that is transparent, accountable, and responsive to the needs of all Albany residents. As a former Analyst in Albany’s Office of Audit and Control, which he now seeks to head, Fein understands the mechanics of city operations. His work as a County Legislator and as a Policy Director in the New York State Senate has equipped him with the expertise to evaluate systems and drive meaningful change.
“The challenges facing Albany today demand bold leadership and innovative approaches,” Fein said. “The City Auditor plays a crucial role in ensuring that every taxpayer dollar is spent wisely and delivers results for city residents. I’m running for Auditor because Albany needs a government that truly works for everyone.”
Fein highlighted key areas where the Auditor’s office can identify solutions and drive progress, such as ensuring that incentives for housing affordability deliver meaningful results, identifying opportunities for state and federal funding to maximize investments in infrastructure and services, and modernizing outdated processes to improve access to city services and reduce barriers to doing business.
“Albany is a city with incredible potential, but to unlock it, we need a government that listens, learns, and leads,” Fein stated. “I’m ready to make that vision a reality.”
